Slow Play !!
It is with no pleasure that I am writing this piece.
Slow play has become endemic in our club.
I have done a survey on the computer, which records the time that one clocks in for a competition and also when one enters the result.
The results are very stark.

The fastest time recorded for the Monthly Medal was 3 hours and 8 minutes from start to finish while the slowest time was 6 hours and 20 minutes. There are obviously reasons why this amount of time elapsed,

  • the person clocked in early
  • same person did not enter score immediately on finishing
  • there was a delay
  • Slow Play
Looking at the computer it would seem that those playing early in the morning are generally quicker finishing. It seems as if the later the day the greater the build up. One must ask the question as to why.  I have no intention of pointing the finger at anyone but it is my firm belief that we are all part of the problem and also can and should be part of the solution.
Remember some basic facts.
  • Your place is immediately behind the people in front and not immediately in front of the people behind.
  • If you allow a clear hole to develop between your group and the group in front then it is important that you call the group behind through immediately'
  • Be ready to play your shot when it is your turn.
Keep up...let us improve the pace of play.
